Event Lighting Leads the Mardi Gras Parade

UFO Lighting and ETC Productions teamed up to produce the audio and lighting for the ACON First Nations 2016 Mardi Gras entry. Being the first vehicle in the parade, with over 100 marchers and a double decker bus following, a substantial amount of ambient light was needed to light up the various dancers and divas. Eight 12 x 8Watt RGBW Pars from Event Lighting were specified for their substantial output, with two 100Watt RGBW moving heads providing a sweeping “Hollywood” style spotlight effect, to highlight the fabulous costumes and kilos of glitter. All controlled by an Avolites desk.

The lights were rigged to box truss with a 2000Watt JBL sound system pumping out David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, powered by a modest 3.5Kva generator. With all of the lights being LED the power draw is extremely low, yet still providing an incredible amount of colourful projection for the parade. Here’s the whole First Nation’s parade entry shot with time lapse footage on a “Go Pro” camera, condensed down to 3 minutes. Thanks to ETC’s Peem Poolpol for the footage.
